A (free!) day at Mass MoCA | Western Mass Photographer

I moved to North Adams a few months ago, into my fiance's apartment which happens to be right up the street from America's largest contemporary art museum. On the 4th of every month, Mass MoCA gives North Adams residents free admission - hey, that's me now!

We started off our day with a quick lunch from Lickety Split. I grabbed a small salad with the tastiest balsamic vingeratte dressing I've ever had!

The art inside MoCA is always interesting. Some things are beyond even my artistic eye to understand, but then there are exhibits I really enjoy.

The funny thing is, the art isn't even my favorite part about this museum. The building itself is a work of art. The museum's campus is an old factory complex, dating back to the mid-1800s, and has housed both the Arnold Print Works and later, Sprague Electric, Sprague closed their factory in 1986, and MoCA opened in 1999.

The works of Sol Lewitt occupy three floors of the museum. His massive drawings are one of MoCA's most well known exhibits, and are on display here until 2033.

I'm dying to do a session here just because of all the awesome locations and light! I talked Shane into standing in for a quick portrait.

He even got in on the fun with some Polaroids!
